Wild Women: Reading Myth Amidst the Redwoods Overnight

wild women: reading myth amidst the redwoods overnight

The idea of wild women is not a new concept. The connection women have had to nature is ancient. Many contemporary thinkers have theorized about the women-nature connection, it’s power, and how those in power have attempted to erase this connection throughout history. We will explore this through readings, discussion, and movement.

Wild Women Bioluminescence Overnight

Wild Women Bioluminescence Overnight

Come spend the night under the stars listening to the waves crashing against the seashore as we explore the coast for bioluminescence—chemical reactions within an organism release energy that create a light. Scientist, deep-sea explorer, and specialist in marine bioluminescence Edith Wilder calls bioluminescence a "language of light." As we explore the coast together, we will consider the multi-faceted forms of language that different organisms (including humans) use, and wonder about language as an evolving mechanism.

Camping spot will be a 2-mile hike in with minor/moderate elevation gain and loss.

All food and drinks provided. Please note the goal of this workshop is to tap into the voice of nature. Simple food and drink (in other words, fasting from life’s tasty distractions) is part of the methodology.

Firemaking Daylong at Kirby Cove

Women and fire daylong workshop

About 2.5 million years ago humans began cultivating fire. Learn the sacred art of friction firemaking — the bowdrill and flint & steel firemaking methods.

In addition, you will learn the story of fire and how it relates to cultivating the wisdom of women. Women have a unique relationship to fire, physically, metaphorically, and socially. By tapping into her wisdom through creating fire, we ultimately tap into her power.

Workshops are held at the picturesque Kirby Cove Campground, just north of San Francisco in the Marin Headlands.

Please bring your own lunch.
