What Makes Us Different

  • Other outdoor programs focus solely on outdoor adventure or science education, and few offer women’s-only spaces. Other women’s-only outdoor spaces don’t integrate science or education. Wild Women affirms science with spirituality.

  • The outdoor industry has been historically masculinized. Wild Women challenges this presumption while also highlighting intersectional dynamics, specifically the historical racialization and underlying ablest assumptions of outdoor experience.

  • We reject the historical masculinization of the wilderness and wild places. While many wilderness programs remain blind to sexist undertones of their programs, Wild Women strives to create inclusive outdoor experiences for its participants.

  • Wild Women connects insights from the world's religions and spiritualities with the land. Most religions don't integrate ecology into their teachings, and most ecological programs don't integrate religious or spiritual insights.

  • Wild Women is committed to creating a holistic experience for you, grounded in your individual body and experience, connecting it to a larger contexts: the Earth. Historically, this connection has been severed for women, and so foregrounding this allows for ancestral connection and healing.

  • Our programs integrate perspectives from philosophy, history, environmental studies, religious studies and spirituality, evolutionary science, and anthropology. Other programs only focus on individual experience while our programs integrate individual experience with theory to create holistic learning.

  • We are committed to social justice, specifically environmental justice. We affirm the intersectional connection between the environmental crisis and racial injustice. We understand that to address racism is to address the environmental crisis, and vice versa, as the two are inextricably intertwined.

  • Our goal is to be a hub connecting people of color, black, poor, and urban communities with scientists and indigenous communities to address concerns of environmental justice. This is why Wild Women is a not-for-profit corporation. Developing mutually beneficial relations with our human and non-human community is central to our mission.

  • Wild Women creates spaces where women can explore themselves at a deep level in an open and nurturing environment. Spiritual insights become grounded in scientific evidence.

  • We care about creating a more just and sustainable world. This commitment informs every outing, class, workshop, session, lecture, event, and program.

  • Our goal is not to change you, rather, help guide you to become more deeply yourself. Our goal is to help you find your inner guide and amplify the healing voice inside.
